Chamfering corners is essential in machining for eliminating sharp edges, improving part aesthetics, and preparing surfaces for welding or assembly. Erix Tool provides highly efficient automatic chamfering tools that perform back chamfering or front & back chamfering — especially in difficult-to-reach areas — with precision. All dimensions in this guide are presented primarily in millimeters (mm), followed by inches (”) in parentheses.
Chamfering Solutions Offered by Erix Tool
Erix Tool specializes in tools that automatically chamfer holes from the back side, front side, or both, without the need for manual repositioning or special fixturing.
Back Chamfering Tools (30°, 45°, 60°)
These tools are designed to enter a hole, fold out the cutting wing on the far side, and chamfer the back edge at a preset angle. Standard angles include 45°, 60°, and 30°, with custom angles down to 15° available on request.
Example:
Tool: 45–10.3 / 19.3–CS9.5
Hole diameter: 10.3 mm (0.406″)
Chamfer diameter: 19.3 mm (0.760″)
Front and Back Chamfering Tools (Prefix 452–)
These tools perform chamfering on both sides of a through-hole in a single operation, saving cycle time and improving consistency.
Example:
Tool: 452–10.3 / 19.3–CS9.5
Hole diameter: 10.3 mm (0.406″)
Chamfer diameter: 19.3 mm (0.760″)
Operating Principle
- Tool Entry
The wing remains retracted during entry.
Spindle rotation is counter-clockwise.
Feed rate must be reduced to a maximum of 0.2 mm/rev (0.008″/rev). - Chamfering
Once fully through, the wing swings out via centrifugal force.
Spindle rotation is reversed.
Cutting begins on the back side with feed and speed set according to material and diameter. - Retraction
Retract with rapid feed until near the hole.
Reduce feed again to 0.2 mm/rev (0.008″/rev) before withdrawing the tool safely.
Speeds and Feeds
These depend on material, wing type (HSS or carbide), and chamfering diameter.
Example for Plain Carbon Steel with Carbide Wing:
Code: 50D
Diameter: 45.4 mm (1.787″)
Feed: 0.14 mm/rev (0.0055″/rev)
Speed: 338 RPM
Size Range and Tolerances
- Standard hole diameters: 4.75 mm – 68.3 mm (0.188″ – 2.688″)
- Custom tools available for holes up to 203 mm (8.000″)
- Diameter tolerances:
- 4.8–9.5 mm (0.188–0.375″): ±0.10 mm (±0.004″)
- 10.3–29.4 mm (0.406–1.156″): ±0.20 mm (±0.008″)
- 30.2–68.3 mm (1.188–2.688″): ±0.30 mm (±0.012″)
